PUMAS SPLIT WITH SCOTTSDALE

Friday, February 13: PVCC 5, SCC 7

The Pumas fell 7-5 to Scottsdale Community College on Friday despite out-hitting the Fighting Artichokes 11 to eight. 

The Pumas opened the scoring in the top of the first when Jude Almaraz doubled, scoring two runs.

Colton Figueroa homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth for the Pumas to extend their lead.

The Fighting Artichokes scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Keith Eusebio stepped on the bump first for the Pumas. The starter surrendered four hits and three runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking three. Noah Coakes took the loss for Paradise the Pumas. The reliever went two innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out two and walking two. 

The Pumas piled up 11 hits in the game. Almaraz and Figueroa each drove in two runs for Paradise Valley CC Pumas. Matt Stewart and Lucas Mitchell each collected multiple hits for the team.

Saturday, February 14: PVCC 6, SCC 0

The Pumas defeated Scottsdale 6-0 on Saturday in the second game of their series as four pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Aiden WoolwineMason LizarragaConnor McDonald, and Dylan Droelle each pitched for the Pumas in the game. Droelle induced a fly out to get the last out.

The Pumas got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Colton Figueroa doubled to left field, and Jude Almaraz grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.

The Pumas added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Matt Stewart singled to center field, and Keith Eusebio walked, each scoring one run.

Chris Quigg homered to right field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third for the the Pumas.

McDonald earned the win for the Pumas. The righty gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Woolwine threw three innings of zero-run ball for Paradise Valley in relief. The pitcher gave up one hit, striking out one and walking three.

The Pumas amassed nine hits in the game. Quigg led the team with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. 

Defensively, the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Stewart had the most chances in the field with eight.

The Pumas next face Phoenix College on Tuesday, February 17 at home. First pitch is at 3:00pm.
