The Pumas season long eight game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday when they defeated Chandler-Gilbert 5-4. The Pumas scored three in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead and secure the victory.
After Chandler-Gilbert took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Pumas captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second after Jude Almaraz tripled, and Lucas Mitchell singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth, the Pumas scored three runs to to take a 5-4 lead, thanks to singles by Almaraz, and Mitchell.
Dylan Droelle earned the win for thePumas. The pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Grey Gusich started the game for the Pumas. The right-handed pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Aiden Woolwine collected the save.
The Pumas piled up 14 hits in the game. Almaraz, the number seven hitter ffor the Pumas, led the way with three runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Mitchell, the number eight hitter, led the team with three hits in four at bats. Keith Eusebio, Woolwine, Jacob Lewis, and Matt Stewart each collected multiple hits for the Pumas. Defensively, the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field and turned one double play in the game. Lewis had the most chances in the field with eight.
Next up, the Pumas host Western Nebraska Community College on Thursday, March 12. First pitch is at 2:00pm.
