Men's Soccer fell 5–0 on the road against NJCAA Division I opponent Mohave Community College in a competitive contest. Despite the final result, head coach Christian DeVries believes the experience will prove critical as the Pumas prepare for ACCAC Division II play.
"Despite the loss, this was a good experience for the guys to get used to the speed of play with an outstanding Mohave team," DeVries said. "This game gets us one step closer to preparing for the ACCAC Division II regular season."
The Pumas generated 11 shots on the night, including five on goal, and tallied five corner kicks. Sophomore forward Jordon Culver turned in a standout performance while adjusting to a new role at outside back. "I was pleased with Jordon's overall performance. He's adapting well, and I feel our freshmen are now battle-tested for the regular season," DeVries added.
Mohave opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 14th minute, and added a second PK goal in the 29th minute. The second half saw three more goals from the home side, including a brace from Lazzar Ramos.
Goalkeepers Ethan Wicht and Julian Moreno split time in the net for the Pumas, combining for two saves on seven shots on goal.
The Pumas (0–1–1) are next up on September 2 at home against Justice College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM
"How we respond will be an important step in our growth as a team," said DeVries.
PVCC opens ACCAC Division II regular season play on September 6, with high expectations and a deeper understanding of the level of play required to compete.
