Men's Soccer opened ACCAC play on the road with a strong 1-1 draw against Mesa Community College on Saturday evening.
"Mesa is always a tough place to play," said Head Coach Christian DeVries. "To come away with a point is a victory for us. We made a couple of adjustments to the lineup, and the guys responded."
The Thunderbirds struck first in the 32nd minute with a goal from Blaise Mboneza, assisted by Elliott Katz, to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Pumas answered early in the second half as Edgar Ocampo netted the equalizer in the 52nd minute, following a well-placed assist from Hugo Huitzil. The Pumas continued to press and outshot Mesa 25-24, with 11 shots on target.
Goalkeeper Ethan Wicht played a key role, making 9 saves to preserve the draw.
The Pumas move to 1-1-2 overall, and 0-0-1 in ACCAC play.
"We have another tough road game on Tuesday as we travel to Glendale," DeVries added. "The guys are excited to hit the field again."
The Pumas return to action on Tuesday, September 9, at Glendale Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
