PUMA SOFTBALL WINS SEASON OPENER ON A WALK-OFF SINGLE

Game 1: PVCC 10, GCC 9

Puma Softball opened the 2026 season in dramatic fashion, defeating Glendale 10-9 with a walk-off in game one of Tuesday's double header.  The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the seventh when Jenna Musselwhite singled, scoring one run.
 
The Pumas came back to win despite trailing 7-1 in the second.  The Pumas were the first to get on the board in the first when Shyla Vasquez singled, scoring one run.  The Gauchos flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring seven runs on six hits to take the lead, 7-1.  The Pumas tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Anahi Rocha doubled with the bases loaded, scoring three runs. Musselwhite's walk-off single scored Rocha from second to win the game for the Pumas. 
 
Brianna Sanchez started in the circle for the Pumas. The pitcher allowed 13 hits and nine runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking four. 
 
The Pumas accumulated 11 hits in the game. Rocha and Musselwhite  were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Pumas. Hailey Barco went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Vasquez collected two hits in two at bats and had two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing four walks for the game. Defensively, the team turned one double play in the game.
 

Game 2: PVCC 0, GCC 15 (5)

Glendale scored nine runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat the Pumas 15-0 in game two of the double header on Tuesday.
 
Shyla Vasquez stepped in the circle first for the  Pumas. The hurler surrendered 17 hits and 13 runs (nine earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking none.
 
Madison Kenney, Ebanie Santana, Jenna Musselwhite, and Shay Valenti each collected one hit for the Pumas.
 
The Pumas welcome Scottsdale on Saturday for their next doubleheader.
