Game 1: PVCC 9, CGCC 17 (5)
Paradise Valley Softball could not hold onto the lead against Chandler-Gilbert in game one of the doubleheader Tuesday, and fell 17-9 despite leading by five at one point.
The Pumas got on the board in the top of the first inning after Anahi Rocha drew a walk, scoring one run, and Shay Valenti singled, scoring two runs.
The Pumas added one run in the second after Jenna Musselwhite singled down the left field line. The Pumas added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Rocha scored after tagging up, and Alexandria Jaquez doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Chandler-Gilbert scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 9-8 lead.
Musselwhite singled down the right field line on a 3-0 count, which helped the Pumas tie the game at nine in the top of the fifth.
The Coyotes flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring eight runs on seven hits to take the lead, 17-9.
Brianna Sanchez began the game for the Pumas Pumas. The starting pitcher surrendered 21 hits and 17 runs (seven earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one.
Paradise Valley Pumas tallied 15 hits in the game. Musselwhite the Pumas with four hits in four at bats. Rocha and Valenti each drove in two runs for the team and Ebanie Santana collected two hits in three at bats.
The team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game, Hailey Barco had two walks to lead the team. Santana stole two bases.
Game 2: PVCC 3, CGCC 18 (5)
Chandler-Gilbert scored 11 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Paradise Valley Pumas 18-3 in game two if the doubleheader Tuesday night.
The Pumas first got on the board in the top of the first when Emily Esparza singled, scoring one run. Anahi Rocha brought Esparza home on a single the next at bat to give the Pumas a 2-0 lead.
Chandler-Gilbert flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring 11 runs on eight hits to take the lead, 11-2.
Shyla Vasquez began the game for the Pumas. The starting pitcher gave up 13 hits and 12 runs (seven earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.
Rocha, Esparza, and Jenna Musselwhite each collected one hit for Pumas. Rocha and Musselwhite each drove in one run for the Pumas. Paradise Valley had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game.
The Pumas welcome South Mountain on Tuesday, February 28 for their next game.
