Game 1: PVCC 3, SCC 7
The Pumas fell to Scottsdale 7-3 in game one of the double header on Tuesday.
The Pumas fell behind 7-1 heading into the top of the third when they had an offensive outburst. Madison Kenney hit a solo home run to right field, and Jalyssa Vasquez hit a solo home run to left field making the score 7-3.
Brianna Sanchez stepped in the circle for the Pumas. The starter allowed 10 hits and seven runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking three.
Leadoff hitter Hailey Barco led the Pumas with three hits in four at bats. Kenney, Vasquez, and Shay Valenti each drove in one run for the team.
Game 1: PVCC 6, SCC 10
The Pumas could not hold onto the lead against Scottsdale on Tuesday in game two of the double header and fell 10-6 despite leading by four at one point.
The Pumas lost despite out-hitting the Artichokes 14 to 11. Ebanie Santana and Anahi Rocha each collected three hits for the Pumas.
Paradise Valley got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jalyssa Vasquez singled, Kiarah Delgado walked, and an Artichoke error, each scoring one run.
The Pumas added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Rocha doubled to center field, and Vasquez laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.
Scottsdale tied the game up in the bottom of the second thanks to two doubles and then took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Jordan Mortensen tripled to center field, which helped the Pumas tie the game at six in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Artichokes broke up the tie, scoring four runs to take a 10-6 lead.
Brianna Sanchez pitched four innings in relief for the Pumas. The pitcher surrendered four hits and five runs (one earned) while, striking out three and walking two. Madison Kenney led things off in the circle for the Pumas. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over two innings, striking out none and walking two.
The Pumas accumulated 14 hits in the game. Vasquez drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Pumas with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Barco collected two hits for the team in five at bats, and Delgado paced the Pumas with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
