Game 1: PVCC 3, CGCC 2
The Pumas took game one of Saturday's double header in dramatic fashion, with a 3-2 walk-off victory over Chandler-Gilbert. The Pumas were down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Madison Kenney homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Brianna Sanchez earned the win for the Pumas. The starter surrendered four hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking one.
Kenney went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Kenney, Emily Esparza, Erin Smith, Jalyssa Vasquez, and Shay Valenti each collected one hit for the Pumas. Defensively, the Pumas turned two double plays in the game.
Game 2: PVCC 8, CGCC 16
Erin Smith drove in four on two hits, but the Pumas fell to Chandler-Gilbert 16-8 in game two of Saturday's double header.
The Pumas got on the board in the first inning after Smith doubled, scoring three runs. A single by Hailey Barco extended the Paradise Valley's lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning.
After Chander-Gilbert took a 5-4 lead in the top of the third inning, the Coyotes powerful offense never relinquished the lead.
Brianna Sanchez pitched four innings in relief for the Pumas. The reliever allowed 11 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) while, striking out two and walking one. Madison Kenney started the game for the Pumas. The starter gave up five hits and five runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking none.
Anahi Rocha and Smith each collected two hits for the Pumas and Ebanie Santana led the team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.
The Pumas ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases for the game with Santana and Jordan Mortensen each stole multiple bases.
The Pumas host Yavapai College of Tuesday, March 24 for their next game. First pitch is at 12:00pm.
