OFFENSIVE BURST HELPS PUMAS SPLIT WITH PHOENIX COLLEGE

Game 1: PVCC 3, PC 4 (7)

After their game on Tuesday was postponed due to the weather, the Pumas could not keep up with Phoenix College, falling in game one of the doubleheader 4-3.

Phoenix College were the first to get on the board in the first when a double score two runs.

Phoenix College committed an error, which helped the Pumas tie the game at two in the top of the sixth.

Kaleb Williams took the loss for the Pumas. The left-handed pitcher went five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out eight and walking one. 

Coby Neville and Colton Figueroa were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Pumas. Gavin Gehrman, Brock De Battista, Neville, Matt Stewart, and Chris Quigg each collected a hit for the team. Defensively, the Pumas turned one double play in the game.

Game 2: PVCC 12, PC 5

The Pumas bounced back after their game one loss, to defeat Phoenix College 12-5 in game two of the doubleheader. Coby Neville collected three hits in six at bats in the win. Neville singled in the third inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the eighth inning.

The Pumas jumped into the lead in the top of the third when Colton Figueroa doubled, scoring two runs, Neville singled, scoring one run, and Lucas Mitchell drew a walk, scoring one run.

Noah Coakes earned the win for the Pumas. The hurler surrendered one hit and two runs (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. Devon Hewitt started the game for Paradise Valley. The starter allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Jayden Martinez, Mason Lizarraga, and Dylan Droelle each threw shutout innings for the Pumas in relief.

The Pumas collected 19 hits in the game. Keith EusebioAiden Woolwine, Jude Almaraz, and Neville each collected three hits for the Pumas. Woolwine, Neville, and Figueroa each drove in two runs for the team. 

The Pumas ran wild on the base paths, amassing three stolen bases for the game, Eusebio had two stolen bases.

Next up, the Pumas travel to Mesa Community College on Friday, February 20 to face the Thunderbirds. First pitch is at 3:00pm.
